Honestly I didn't expect to like this book and I didn't particularly care for it. I thought it started well (the first third had me turning pages) but about halfway through I found myself bored and really didn't care where the story was headed. Stories with vampire hunters are usually very exciting and action-packed, this was not. It seemed choppy to me (too much available information condensed into too few pages). The plethora of historical details made this feel more real than it was intended to be. I'm not much of a history buff but even so, I found myself wincing at Lincoln's supposed thoughts and actions as they varied greatly from reality and my impressions of Abe Lincoln. I was more disconcerted than entertained. I won't be reading any more of Mr. Smith's "alternate" reality fiction as it's just not to my taste.
