Shadow of Night - Deborah Harkness Shadow of Night begins with Diana and Matthew landing in Elizabethan England right after they time-walked at the end of A Discovery of Witches. Matthew displaces himself and takes up his spying duties for Queen Elizabeth as if he's never left while Diana struggles to acclimate herself to the 1590s. I enjoyed Matthew's School of Night friends (Walter Raleigh, Henry Percy, George Chapman, Tom Harriet) while despising Christopher Marlow. I can't figure out why Matthew didn't disembowel him though I'm sure it had something to do with not changing the past (the whole time travel thing). I particularly liked Annie, Jack and Mop (and was upset when they were left behind when Diana and Matthew returned.)

I enjoyed how the relationship between Matthew and Diana progressed. That was an interesting turn of events. And we finally got to know a few more of Matthew's secrets. I look forward to the conclusion of the trilogy.
