White Tiger - Kylie Chan This book was a total surprise! I picked it up when Borders was closing because I liked the cover. I never even read the back of the book so the fact that the main character was female came as a surprise as I fully expected it to be a man.

Emma Donahoe is an Australian transplant in Hong Kong teaching Engligh to the native people. When she is hired full time as a nanny to Mr. Chen's four year old daughter Simone, she moves into his penthouse.
What follows is a surprisingly boring day-to-day goings on in the household. Eventually someone slips and Emma sees something she shouldn't and then the story finally takes off.

The Chinese mythology was very intriguing and it was interesting how Ms. Chan interwove it into the story. I liked the Gods (especially the Tiger whose story should be very exciting). Surprisingly, I actually learned a lot reading this book.

I didn't particularly like the non-relationship between Mr. Chen and Emma. I couldn't figure why Emma was pushing him so hard as it seemed out of character. I did like her growing relationship with Leo, the bodyguard. And there is definitely something off with her friend April so it'll be interesting to see where that leads.

As precocious as Simone is, I found myself wanting to slap her a time or to. I did like Emma's training and can't wait to find out what the "big black thing" was that tried to come out of her. Hmmm I guess I'll have to read the next book soon.
