The Graveyard Book - Neil Gaiman Nobody Owens is quite the moniker but when you're one and a half years old and appear alone at a graveyard in the middle of the night with someone nasty chasing you, someone has to name you. Leave it to a bunch of dead people to think Nobody is a fine name. Poor Nobody, he has no idea something terrible has happened to his family. He just decides he wants out of his crib and finding the front door open a crack, ventures outside and toddles up the hill to the cemetery. After much debate among the denizens of the graveyard, Mr and Mrs Owens decide to raise Nobody (Bod as he is called). Of course, the ghosts can't leave the graveyard so Silas (neither dead or alive) becomes Bod's guardian providing food and advise. The story follows Bod's life in the graveyard, his making of friends and his graveyard education.

I really liked this book as it was cleverly put together. Bod was a great character as was Silas. Silas treats Bod with respect, listens to him and offers honest answers to difficult questions. I admit to a few tears at the end but I guess you can't expect Bod to stay in the graveyard forever. He does have to live a little before he's a resident of this fine establishment of interesting characters.
