Speaker for the Dead - Orson Scott Card I had great difficulty getting into this book as nothing happening had anything to do with [b:Ender's Game|375802|Ender's Game (Ender's Saga, #1)|Orson Scott Card|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1316636769s/375802.jpg|2422333] or the characters from that book. It turns out that 3,000 years have passed since [b:Ender's Game|375802|Ender's Game (Ender's Saga, #1)|Orson Scott Card|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1316636769s/375802.jpg|2422333] and Ender and Valentine have been space hopping around the universe so only a few years have actually passed for them while 3,000 have passed for everyone else. Unlike [b:Ender's Game|375802|Ender's Game (Ender's Saga, #1)|Orson Scott Card|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1316636769s/375802.jpg|2422333], this book is filled with religion, monks, bishops and religious zealots. This part of the story was greatly disappointing and was overly preachy and annoying. It always irritates me when one religious sect forces their beliefs on others.

It wasn't until halfway through that the story actually "happens". The first half is just a setup for when Ender arrives on the Lusitania Colony. It takes great patience to get through the first 10 chapters as the characters change every chapter. One chapter has a few characters and a few chapters later you're dealing with those characters children who are suddenly in their 20s. As if they sprouted from the ground. There isn't any notification that "20 years have passed" or whatever. It just continues as if nothing has changed, when everything has. I found this the most confusing aspect of the book but this completely stopped once Ender arrived since, of course, Ender is the story.

Oh well, I understand that [b:Xenocide|8648|Xenocide (Ender's Saga, #3)|Orson Scott Card|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1316131283s/8648.jpg|1150594] isn't much better but [b:Speaker for the Dead|7967|Speaker for the Dead (Ender's Saga, #2)|Orson Scott Card|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1295660894s/7967.jpg|2327777] left Miro hanging and I really need to know that he not only survives but has a life as well so I will continue the series regardless of the drawbacks.
