Sahara (Dirk Pitt Series #11)

Sahara (Dirk Pitt, #11) - Clive Cussler EXCELLENT! I have never been disappointed in a Clive Cussler novel and this is no exception.

As is the usual start to a Dirk Pitt novel, there are two events that happened in the past that will somehow coincide with the current adventure. In 1865 during the Civil War, the Ironclad Texas disappears with a bellyful of gold and an unusual passenger, never to be seen again. In 1931 a female pilot flying solo from England to South Africa disappears without a trace somewhere in the Sahara desert. Dirk Pitt and Al Giordino are on a mission to find the cause of the red tide - a terrible growth that is affecting coral in every ocean of the world and in a very short time, will cause the death of every living thing on the planet due to the lack of breathable oxygen. Dirk and Al travel up the Niger river in Africa ready to investigate and stumble upon a dirty government in Mali with a terrible despot for a leader. And of course, there is a woman involved. Eva Rohous is part of the World Health Organization who is tracking sickness rushing through the Sahara desert tribes.

This is a typical Dirk Pitt adventure with lots of fighting (Dirk always wears the white hat), rescuing damsels in distress, running for his life and coming close to dying a time or two. Pitt reminds me a little of MacGuyver who could always escape from anywhere with just a few miscellaneous items.
