High Stakes - Erin McCarthy Ethan Carrick is the head vampire in Vegas and of course he owns a casino, because what the heck else could a vampire do in Vegas? He is currently the president of the vampire nation and campaigning for reelection. Of course, he thinks he needs a wife to win so enter prosecutor Alexis Baldizzi. She is rather irritating and he is to mamby-pamby for my taste and not even remotely sexy. He just annoyed me as did his sidekick, Seamus. Even the half-hearted attempts on his life by his opponent, Donatelli weren't engaging. It seems to me that Ms McCarthy missed with this series. The snappy repertoire between Alexis and Ethan is supposed to be funny but I just found it corny and overused.

The only characters I enjoyed were Alexis's sister Brittany and her one-time lover, exiled vampire Corbin. This is not a series I would normally continue but since I own Brittany's story, I'll give it a another try even though it isn't the second book in the series.
